The Camping Season is Here…

I made my first camping trip for the year last week. I went to New Harmony Indiana and camped in Harmonie State Park. Only about 10% of the campground was filled. As you can see from the photo of my micro-RV I proudly advertise 2TouchTheSky on it.

A camping I will go, a camping I will go. Hi, Ho, the Merryo….

Star Wars..

I certainly enjoyed my recent trip to Disney World, especially the Star Wars elements. Today May 4 being Star Wars day I thought it appropriate to give you a picture of a major exhibit there.

May the fourth be with you….   🙂  🙂

Bridgeton Rendevous.jpg

One of my favorite type day trips are to rendezvous around the Midwest. This one was in Bridgeton Indiana about a week ago. Some day I just may join them in reliving days of our country’s past

Disney World — Flowers

One of the things that impressed me the most about my recent trip to Disney World were the flower beds. They were huge and beautiful. These were found below the Monorail system in Epcot.

I’m Dreaming Of.. Gardening…

1993 Garden

I have always liked to grow things and have had a veggie garden most of my life.  This one from 1993 was perhaps my best. My garden this year is six tomato plants, a couple of zucchini plants, and the usual asparagus patch. Its meager but at least better than last year’s potted tomatoes on the deck…

Disney Fireworks.jpg

DW Banner  The nightly fireworks on the lake in Epcot at Disney World  are the best I have ever seen. As usual when they do something they do it right. It is hard to capture it all in pictures but you kind of get the idea from this one.

Blue McCaws

DW BannerI have to say that Disney World does it right. They go out of their way to insure that everyone has a good time. One of those unique experiences was the McCaws at Animal Kingdom. A dozen birds seem to land on command so these smiling young ladies can tell us about them and of course so we can take pictures. Then a few minutes later they all take flight only to return a few hours later for more guests.

Back To The Daily Routines..

Disney Fireworks-3We returned from our Disney World adventure yesterday so it is back the the daily routine. I didn’t keep my promise to post here during the vacation mainly because I had better things to do.  The readership of this blog is still dreadfully low so I just didn’t have the drive to spend the time.  It’s hard getting readership for a blog that focuses on positive thoughts I guess…. 🙂

My time at Disney World was great.  There was a good, a bad, and a ugly side of which I will report there in the coming week or so along with pics. Gotta unpack and such so I will just leave you with one picture of me and my buddy Donald… more later….

As planned we got to DW about noon and visited the Boardwalk Inn. It would be a couple of hours before we could check in so we strolled the boardwalk. But first we picked up my wife’s scooter. Everything went pretty much as expected.  One thing that immediately struck me was just how clean everything is. There was not a single speck of paper to be found anywhere. It was supposed to be a light day but still I ended up walking almost 6 miles!

We went to DW Springs in the early evening and found massive crowds there. It was kind of like a BIG shopping mall. We intended to eat dinner there but found that the wait times were in the order of 2 hours so skipped than and after about a half hour decided we had enough. We ended up eating at the Bakery. The sandwiches were very tasty.  After more browsing we headed back to our room to watch an episode of Doc Martin via streaming video from my Amazon account.

Let me close this post with some pictures.

DW BannerHere I am in a hotel room in Ocala Florida, which is about an hour and a half from Disney World. Or at least if traffic allows this Sunday morning. I got my MagicBand out of the luggage and am now waiting for my wife to wake us. She is not nearly excited about this trip as I am.  🙂

2016-03-18_16-35-23I have already electronically checked into the resort so they will send me a text message with the room number when it’s available. No waiting in line at the reception desk is necessary. Today will be spent just browsing around the Boardwalk and maybe visiting the Village where all the shops are.  Tomorrow will be a day at Epcot.  I can hardly wait to get this time started!!

If time allows I will be posting daily snippets here to tell you the highlights. Further reflection will be made after our return home….

I’m Dreaming About … Folk Music

I guess you could say that folk music is an acquired taste and it seems to have fallen out of favor these days. In my earlier hearing years I almost lived and breathed folk music.  One of the original founders of that music genre was Woody Guthrie and one of my favorite museums is the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa OK. The museum is small but packed with the archive of all his music.

His most famous song “This Land Is Your Land” should be our national anthem. It relates more to the character of America than a naval battle some one hundred fifty years ago.

I’m Dreaming about … Mountain Hiking…

Colorado Mtns.jpg

I took the picture above in 1977 when I hiked there with my best buddy. I don’t remember the name of the mountain but it is located in southwestern Colorado.  The mountain top lake shown here was at 12,000 feet so the breathing was hard even for the 31 year-old that I was. You could say the view was literally breathtaking!  This pic remains in the 5 star category in my Lightroom library. We camped there for three days before heading back down.
