Its Hard Starting a New Blog…

2016-03-21_09-35-37.pngIts hard starting a new blog, if you are not primarily in it for yourself you are in for some serious disappointment as far as early views are concerned.  They just don’t happen as we hope.

You have to realize that you are competing with millions of others who are doing the same thing as you are and everyone of us is dreaming of thousands of views a day to somehow validate our time spent writing posts. I especially feel sorry for those bloggers out there that are trying to make money off their words. You are almost guaranteed failure.

2TouchTheSky is not my first blog. I have been blogging for almost nine years now and have created perhaps a dozen different blogs.  Some like most blogs today were short lived because I didn’t have the compassion for the subject I thought I did going in. Some such as RedLetterLiving  which lasted over four years generated quite a few  views and followers but after a period of time the subject matter just ran out or maybe I just got stale on it. Others were merged together. That is how RJsCorner came about. Then there are those that had not really been thought out in the beginning and should never have been started at all.

Another point is illustrated by the graphic above.  You have to be able to write in a manner that makes people want to read what you say.

2016-03-21_09-28-46The main point of this post is that if you are not passionate about what you are blogging and willing to spend the time on posts that for the most part only you  and maybe a few others will read then you shouldn’t get into the blogging arena at all. It is lonely the first several months. It takes time for others to find you. Patience, which most of us have little of, is definitely a virtue in starting a new blog such as this one.

When I was in the corporate world for thirty years I frequently traveled by air. The first trips in 1970 were pleasant. The business traveler was king of the sky. But as the years progressed flying become more and more burdensome. My last business trip by air in 2000 was a pain-in-the…  In the fifteen years hence I have made very few trips to airports. Instead I now take road trips.

Yeah, road trips might take a little longer, although with all the security stuff sometimes not. But if you really want to see just how wonderful and diverse this country really is you can’t visit it from thirty thousand feet above, you got to stay on the ground and of course off the Interstate highways as much as possible. Up till five years ago my wife and I took several road trips a year, now because of declining health of one of us they have been narrowed down to usually just one, or if lucky maybe two multi-day ones.

I mostly travel with history in mind. I have read ferociously about U.S. history. I  know the founding fathers and some others who I have followed intimately.  I have been in all fifty of our States so I have a lot of stories to tell here at 2TouchTheSky and in the coming months/years. There will be some stories and many pictures to help you know a little about each location and its history.

I have touched the sky many times during these trips.  The memories are etched in my mind even after so many years. Come back often for my stories. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

I was trained and lived for thirty years as an engineer and therefore know the benefits of strong foundations. If you want your house to survive you have to build it on a strong foundation. I kind of see the same thing for a blog site. You got to explain what you are going to talk about before you start building much of your blog. That is what this post is all about. If you want to ever view the foundation posts here click on The Foundation category in the About header link on the home page.

One of the top priorities of 2TouchTheSky is block out the negativity in the world. It just will not show up here.  For me that is a difficult thing as I like to stay informed and I am proud that I question everything. That part of my blog life is reserved for RJsCorner where I cover almost everything including the current political insanity.

I kind of treat my two blogs as a yin/yang thing. Yin is the light side of life while yang represents the darker side. I have been dwelling on the dark side for too long. It is time to come to the light.  Since I am a Star Wars guy, it is time for the force to be with me. With your help  I can accomplish this here.

2TouchTheSky is all about finding a place where everybody knows your name. Wait a minute that’s right idea but the wrong words.  🙂  It is really about a place where I can escape the darker realities of the world and live in a world of relative bliss. It’s about dreaming in all its innocent forms.

Even if dreaming doesn’t draw you in right now you may want to stick around for a while to see what my definitions are all about.  I may just draw you in!! For those fellow dreamers out that I hope that you will come here and share some of your dreams with my readers. No one has a lock on dreaming, it is open to all interpretations.

So, this is one of those foundation posts. It won’t be the last one but instead one of the initial blocks….

BTW.  The pic in the header is of Thomas Edison’s house in Menlo Park NJ.  It has some strong foundations.

I know the image of an old person is generally not linked to a dreamer but that is just what this blog is all about. Many think old people are just supposed to “sit back and watch”, their dream days are behind them. To that I say poppycock…. 🙂

Dreaming is a lifelong process that never ends. My earliest dreams were to try to touch the sky, hence the name for this blog. For some reason I have always been attracted to looking up. Even as a very young boy in the 1950s  I could be found lying in the grass on a summer night looking up at the stars and dreaming about them and what the future might hold for me.  I was just a dreamy kid and have been all my life.  The sky to me was, and still is, the epitome of beauty. How could all those bright lights up there just be hanging in the sky so many miles away? How could those clouds be anything but cotton balls? Those nights in the dewy grass started me on a lifelong journey that will not end until I take my last breath.

Dreaming is a natural process for all of us. Some of us embrace it and some of us allow the dark sides of life to stifle it. Without dreams there are no ambitions. Without dreams there is no future. This blog is about dreams and how to grab them and not let go.  If you want to get a glimpse into my dreamworld then come back here often. Maybe you will be inspired by my sixty plus years of dreams.

One thing this blog will NOT be about it the negative side of life. I will seriously try to leave that behind when I enter  ToTouchtheSky. Negativity has no place in my dreams and neither does fear which is also so prevalent in today’s world. Welcome to my journey, sometimes it will be surreal and sometimes off-the-wall but I don’t think it will ever be boring. That is just the kind of guy I am, even in my seventieth year…
